Kids and Carrots’ pedagogical vision is inspired by the principles of leading educators Emmi Pikler, Thomas Gordon and by Loris Malaguzzi’s Reggio Emilia pedagogy. These visions run like a thread through this pedagogical policy plan and have been used as a source of inspiration. From these methods, Kids and Carrots has described a unique, self-contained vision.

Children are born with the natural desire to communicate, feel, learn and develop themselves. They are naturally eager to learn and interested in the environment. Children can express themselves in a hundred ways and in a hundred languages. It is up to us to understand that. Children mainly communicate with body language, young children cannot yet express themselves in spoken or written language, but can do so through dance, music, drawing, clay, movement or sound. We literally and figuratively offer the children the space to explore, wonder, experiment, communicate and learn, with the result that they become increasingly independent. We communicate at child height (eye level). As children can best read a facial expression, they feel heard and this creates more confidence.

Children are born with many talents and are strong, powerful and creative in themselves. Every child has his or her own ideas, thoughts and feelings; every child is unique. Children are small researchers, eager to learn and curious and have their own pace of development. It is important that every child can and may be himself and that emotions can be recognized and experienced. We can only get to know, understand and guide children by really looking at them and listening to them. In this way it is possible to respond directly to needs and interests.

Commitment, respect and love are central to our contact with the children. The children are approached in a positive, open and calm attitude and receive undivided attention from the pedagogical staff. The pedagogical staff are there to provide the children with a challenging environment and to follow the children in their needs, making them feel safe and secure and creating a strong pedagogical climate. The pedagogical staff offer the children new activities every day to stimulate the various development areas. We mainly work with toys made of natural materials and like to use leaves and pinecones, for example, as craft materials. Every week a professional teacher comes by to teach music, visual arts, gym, dance, mindfulness (from 3 years) or yoga. We have developed a special development program for children from 3 years old. Through this program, children are introduced to numbers, letters, art, culture, the English language and more in a playful way.

At Kids and Carrots we have small groups of children in a large group spaces. The baby groups (0-2 years) receive a maximum of six babies from 0 years old and a maximum of six toddlers from 1 year to 2 years old. toddler groups has a maximum of eleven children. Small groups of children have been deliberately chosen, so that all children have the space, literally and figuratively, to grow and develop. This also means a lot of time and attention for the individual child, development-oriented activities and excursions.

Every day we go outside to play and discover. We have our own vegetable garden at all locations, where the children grow their own vegetables. In this way, the children learn where our vegetables come from. Organic food is an important part of the Kids and Carrots philosophy. A child can develop better in a cognitive, social and emotional area with a healthy body. All food offered at Kids and Carrots is organic and completely free from refined sugars, salt and additives. Every day a homemade, warm lunch is served with at least three types of vegetables, supplemented with quinoa, pasta, sweet potato, bulgur and fish or a meat substitute.

The full way in which our vision is put into practice is described in pedagogical work plans. The pedagogical staff work on the basis of these work plans and therefore know exactly how to act in a certain situation.
