Frequently Asked Questions

Registering your child for childcare is a process that involves several steps. We are here to support you throughout this process and answer all your questions. Below, we provide answers to some frequently asked questions. You may find answers to your questions here, and if not, please feel free to contact us!

Registration and Waiting List

Registration through our website is without obligation and free of charge via. In the online registration form, you can specify your preferences. Once we receive the form, you will receive an automatic confirmation from us.

Our Planning department will then contact you as soon as possible to go through all the details. After discussing the options, we will have all the information needed to finalize the contract. If necessary, we will put you on the waiting list. This may happen if there is no immediate availability at the requested location.

It’s good to know that we always plan up to about 6 months before the desired start date.

At Kids and Carrots, we believe it’s important to provide children with a stable environment where they feel safe. Therefore, based on our pedagogical vision, we require a minimum enrolment of 2 childcare days per week. Flexible childcare is not available.

If you’re unsure about the start date and the number of days per week you’ll need childcare, it’s advisable to register your child for the earliest possible date and for the number of days you expect to need childcare. You can always adjust these details later once you know more.

Several factors come into play when planning and placing children, including the combination of desired days and start date, the child’s age, and cancellations from already placed children. We always consider the staff-to-child ratio (the ratio of staff to the number of children in a group).

In some situations, certain children are given priority, such as siblings of children already placed or children of staff members. When a spot becomes available, we will contact you to discuss the further details of the contract. Our aim is to accommodate as many children as possible at Kids and Carrots, and we are always willing to work with you.

Contracts and Payments

No, contracts cannot be temporarily paused.

We offer both 40-week and 52-week contracts. With a 40-week contract, the hourly rate is higher than with a 52-week contract. With a 40-week contract, you can only bring your child on regular school days. Extra credit cannot be used for study and/or vacation days. With a 52-week contract, all regular school, vacation, and study days are included.

Cancellation is completely free up to 3 months before the start date. If you cancel (partially) within 3 months before the planned start date, there will be charges. For cancellations between 1 and 3 months before the planned start date, we charge €250. For cancellations less than 1 month before the start date, the full costs of the first month of childcare will be charged.

For information about direct debit details and other payment-related questions, please refer to our general (payment) terms. If you’re unable to find the information you need, feel free to contact us.

Contracts must be terminated via email (to kindplanning@kidsandcarrots.nl); termination cannot be done verbally. There is a notice period of 1 month for termination. It’s important to also cancel the childcare benefit in a timely manner to avoid unnecessary repayments. The contract expires automatically on the day before the child’s 4th birthday.

When you decide to use childcare or after school care, you can apply for childcare benefit from de Belastingdienst (the tax authorities). This is a subsidy for parents to cover the costs of childcare. The amount of this benefit is based on the joint gross income and the number of children using childcare within the family.

Applying for childcare benefit is the responsibility of both or one of the parents and must be done through de Belastingdienst. Kids and Carrots is not responsible for this.

To be eligible for childcare benefit, there are several conditions:

– Dependent children are registered at the parent(s)’ residential address.

– Either you or your partner pays for the childcare costs.

– Both parents/caretakers work or receive a contribution from the Employee Insurance Agency (UWV) or municipality under the Childcare Act.

Exchange Days, Closing, and Opening Hours

You can request extra days or exchange days via the Konnect OuderApp. The manager or childcare worker at the location can approve or reject the request via the app, depending on the space available in the group. The parent will receive a notification.

An exchanged day can be taken one month before or one month after the missed day. Exchanging days is not guaranteed and is subject to availability.

Kids and Carrots is open five days a week, 52 weeks a year, from 7:30 am to 6:30 pm. The After School Care (BSO) is open after school until 6:30 pm, and during study days, margin days, and school holidays from 7:30 am to 6:30 pm.

At the beginning of the year or during the intake interview, the closing calendar will be communicated via our app. We are closed on national holidays and on a study day. All closing dates cannot be exchanged for another childcare day. The costs for these days are calculated in the fixed hourly rate.

At the location

At Kids and Carrots, we only work with horizontal groups. In a horizontal group, children are grouped together with peers of the same age. Therefore, at our locations, we have separate baby, toddler, and/or preschool groups. Once your baby becomes a toddler or preschooler, they will move on to the next group. We do not offer vertical groups where children from zero to four years old are together. In these groups, young children grow up with older children in the group.

Absolutely, we consider it very important for you to have a good start at Kids and Carrots. Starting childcare is a big step, and to support you effectively, we always schedule adjustment periods. These are scheduled by the location manager or the group prior to the start date. Two adjustment periods take place before the childcare period starts.

If you have concerns, want to discuss something, or file a complaint, please contact the location manager. We’re happy to sit down with you to find a solution. Often, a personal conversation can help clarify things.

If you’re unable to resolve the issue at the location or prefer to discuss and/or file a complaint directly, you can do so via mpronk@kidsandcarrots.nl. Keep in mind that a formal complaint must be submitted in writing.

As a childcare organisation, we fully endorse the importance of following the National Immunisation Programme. This is necessary to protect children who cannot be vaccinated (for medical reasons) and babies who are not yet fully vaccinated. We request vaccination records from all children during the intake process and store them in our digital app. Of course, we cannot compel parents to share this information with us, and you have the right to refuse to provide medical information, including vaccination records. So far, all parents have been willing to share this information with us, and we highly appreciate it.
